Leica-Inspired Cookies and Cakes Created by Fans for the Holidays

A week before Christmas last month, Leica launched a contest to spread some holiday cheer. Instead of asking its fans to make photographs, however, the company asked them to bake cookies and cakes.

Leica CEO Alfred Schopf wrote,

The year 2012 is drawing to a close. And Christmas and the new year promise wonderful and festive days for the whole family. The season promises hours of relaxation and festive fare. We see this as the perfect occasion to announce a competition combining the most creative delicacies on the theme of Leica and photography. To take part in the ‘Leica. Das Plätzchen – The Holiday Cookie Competition’, all you have to do is send us a photo of your home-made Leica delights on Facebook along with a brief description by 31 December 2012. The best entries will then be picked by our Facebook community. Three lucky winners will receive a copy of our latest book, NINETY-NINE YEARS OF LEICA. And we can look forward to seeing lots of fantastic cookies.

The book currently sells for $130 over on Amazon.

The contest has wrapped up its submission stage and is currently in the public voting stage. Here’s a sampling of the cookies and cakes submitted by Leica shooters around the world:

You can vote for a winner by visiting the official contest page over on Facebook. Voting ends on Monday, and the winning baked goods will be announced on Tuesday.

If you’re a fan of baking yourself, hopefully this post gave you some fun new ideas for future camera-related baking projects!
