Personally, I’m using Mac OS X Snow Leopard. About half a year ago my Windows XP laptop stopped working, and I decided to give Apple a shot. I’m not particularly loyal to any OS, so my next OS could be anything.
Feel free to leave a comment sharing why you’re using why you’re using!

Both Linux (Debian) and Mac OS X, as I'm IT professional (geek ;) and designer/photographer at once.
I use Windows 7. I have Linux boxen, I refuse to use Mac anything (at least until I can't change the root password with a key press at boot up), but really I just use Windows 7. I am also an IT Professional (I wonder how many of us are photographers as an aside) so I get to play with all kinds of stuff (I run a massive WS2003 network, as well as a small WS2008 network, and even one based on *gasp* NetWare 6.5!).
I've been using Mac OS X for over six years now, and I love it. All the sturdiness and flexibility of Unix, but I don't have to be a full-time Linux admin. And for the past 9 years I've been using Linux and Mac OS X at work.
One of the side benefits of this is that my parents use Windows, and I can't give them tech support — I have no idea how to do most things in Windows. So they've actually had to figure it out on their own, and they've gotten pretty good at it. Everybody wins!
Another IT guy here. Spent about 15 years dealing with Windows almost exclusively (minus a few short flirts with different flavors of Linux) before landing a job as Mac admin. While I still use PCs daily, most of my personal usage has switched to my Macbook Pro.
It should have allowed multiple choices. I use both Mac and Windows on a daily basis. I have been a loyal Windows user for years and about 5 years ago I got a MBook Pro and loaded Windows through fusion. So I have been happy using both since then, I can't live without either of them.
A not-at-all IT girl…
Using Linux (and not because my husband does… He is teaching ICT, and uses Windows), because I love the Open Source concept.
So our son can choose… he usually uses Linux on my dual boot laptop, sometimes Windows on his fathers Windows-only PC.
Lesson learned =)
We'll allow multiple choices next time. Did you end up choosing one?
I fancy the idea of a Mac but the price puts me off. Tried linux a few times but it's always fiddly and app support is limited. So for the time being I'll be putting up with Windows 7.
You are using Google Analytics so the answer is right there- just have a look ;-)
You're right about this breakdown appearing in analytics. However, they count everyone who visits us rather than those who read PP and care enough to vote or comment.
I might include a comparison when this poll ends next week :-)
Yes, compare it with returning visitors data. That'd be quiet interesting, as these returning ones are probably those who read and care. Let's see next week. Cheers
I was so tempted to put Haiku but I don't use it daily – yet. Did spend most of the weekend writing a screensaver for it though!
Another IT guy :P
I'm currently using Windows 7 on my laptop, Arch Linux on my second laptop, Linux on data server and *BSD on my all other machines for fun :P
Win XP for games and Ubuntu for work and graphics…
i use ubuntu and xp in dual boot, xp is just for stability for games.
i also use an xp virtual machine as some of the graphics software i use doesnt run well under wine, but mostyl ive found i can do most things just as well in ubuntu as i can on anything eles
I just wanted to get rid of my Windows Vista, so WIN7 was the natural choice.. I generally dislike working with Macs, so I think I'll be using PC forever.
I'm using Snow Leopard on my Mac. I've been using Macs since 1989 all because I've used my uncle's PCs from the Win 3.1 days. Those were a complete pain in the butt to use. I have used Ubuntu, and if I had a spare PC to work on, I'd learn this OS too.
I spend 6 years on the Mac platform (eMac, G5 Powermac). Because of some horrible experiences w/ a MacBook Pro I switched back to Windows. It felt like being home again.
Windows 7 64. If Apple would ever not make me pay $100's more for its name on a piece of hardware, I'd probably dual boot OS X too.
I'm use multiple OS's too. Mostly linux at home with a bit of windows. Windows at uni (where I do quite a lot of computing).
Oh yeah I still chose Win 7 :)
I'm a dual-headed greybeard — Work side started out on CPM, then DOS, then Win 3X, 9X, and XP. Creative side started on Mac OS on a MacPlus, then OS/6,7,8 & 9. Now OSX
I use Windows to support customers, and I use a Mac Pro to get work done. At home, Macbook Pro to edit photos. I have a 10 year Mac 9600 that still boots faster than my Wintel machines…
I use Rawstudio, digikam, and Gimp on Debian or Ubuntu Linux for all my images.
