And just for the record, I do know that people can take screen shots of flash based websites, I was just saying that your “average” person scrolling quickly through the internet wouldn't be able to right click and save an image. I don't make money off my images, I just don't like people claiming them as their own (as sometimes happens on sites like deviant art and such).

The permalink thing is something I hadn't thought of, that's a pretty good piece of advice.

In terms of discussions about portfolios, I was thinking a clean, elegant style (much like the one profiled on this post) would be the best. At the same time, if a photo editor or gallery owner is looking at your site, are they subconsciously judging your sense of style, composition, use of color, etc etc etc by the site itself as well as by the photographs? It seems possible. Should it be a concern? Feedback appreciated.

I was referring more to a site completely designed in flash without being mindful of usability and linkability, not sites that simply incorporate flash in some way in their presentation.

Regarding the flash portfolios, a number of the reasons have already been listed. If something can be seen on a screen, then it can be copied. Flash is only a very, very weak “defense” against that. A simple screenshot can steal the image.

Another big reason is that many flash portfolios don't have permalinks to individual photos or pages, making it impossible to refer to a particular part of the portfolio page. For example, if I went to your portfolio and saw an amazing photograph I wanted to point someone to, it could be impossible if your site isn't set up correctly.
