The Chilling Effects of the Fashion World

AORTA shot a series of photographs for 125 magazine telling the story of a young lady returning home from working as a fashion model for a year. The images are chilling and beautiful at the same time:

I love how these images have a surreal quality to them. For the rest of the images in the series you can either check out their portfolio, or visit the project page oh Behance:

really? this is thinly conceptual at best. they are photographed beautifully but seriously lacking in content.

Well, I love most of the stuff here and again these photos are beautiful but I just don't know that they are anything other than that.. BUT, maybe that's the point.

I think the images really speak to a disconnect between the fashion/commercial industry and the classic American image of the suburban nuclear family–and comments negatively on the result of that dynamic on younger girls and mothers. Notice that the family, especially the father, is very diminutive in the frame, reflecting their daughter's new view of them.

I also like how the tone is cold and sad; though there are very vibrant colors in some of the photos, the editing and composition reflects the icy indifference of the model.
