I'm very much into this subject by now, so it's great to read something about it !
I feel like taking pictures from people in the street, but I not dare too !
You said there there were something like guilt when you hide, but what stops me is shyness, and also that I feel guilt in using the image of the people for my own purpose, and mostly to show it publicly on my blog.
But I know you are true ! The first step is the most difficult one !

I just put many of these principles into practice in East Africa on a recent trip. Getting close (50mm), being friendly and keeping the kit light & simple are keys that really work well.

The only problem I ran into was that some of the tribal groups (Western Uganda) REALLY don't like it when you pull out the camera and point it at them. I was only able to make photos in more intimate settings where I'd met the people.

this is a great report and it comes for me at a great time. I am going to try and do a freestyle photoshoot on Sunday in my city downtown. I hope people show up with the intention of being photographed. If people don't, i'll be on the move for some other type of street shots but still in a 'freestyle' frame of mind. A lot of great tips and ways to calm my nerves!

My cousin has started into photography and I simply started to love the photos in RedBubble making me want to start this as for the fun of it. I don't even own a camera, but have been looking around for one that is very economical but good enough to take nice, clear pictures. I'm living on a fixed income. But so is my cousin and she is doing it. She even took classes. I can't even afford that, but would just try it on my own just for the fun of it. Could you give me some tips on what would be a good camera to buy which won't hurt my pocket? And I loved this article. When I start out, I will keep these hints in mind.

I think I always get confused on when I need the person to sign the release or not.
I suppose if I use his/her photo for my portfolio or website, then I don't need the release.
But if I want to sell the photo as stock, then I will need him/her to sign a release.
