I’m wondering what kind of cameras PetaPixel readers are shooting with. Is it with a DSLR? Point and shoot? Film?

If you’re not sure what kind of DSLR you have, you can check out the list of full frame cameras on Wikipedia here: Full Frame DSLRs. If your camera isn’t on that short list, you probably have a crop frame.

What kind of camera do you mainly shoot with?

  • Full Frame DSLR (112 Votes)
  • Crop Sensor DSLR (274 Votes)
  • Point and Shoot (50 Votes)
  • 35mm Film (18 Votes)
  • Medium Format Film (14 Votes)
  • Other (3 Votes)

What would you like to shoot with would be a great poll! For me, none other than the 5D MK II. Beautiful. Right now I shoot with a 40D, which I love, but what Canon lover could not love the idea of the 5D MK II if they do not already have one? :)

I shoot with a D40 most of the time but have a lot of fun with my Yashica Electro 35.

I do think the 40D has some advantages over a camera like the 5D.

The burst speed for one, and the fact that the crop on the 40D gives you extra end on the telephoto end (though less on the wide end).

I think you are going to lose a lot of people over the terminology Crop Sensor DSLR — a lot of people who shoot with them, will be exactly the kind of people who will not know what the terminology means.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll add in some descriptions in the post.

I'm using 5D most of the time but for compat size I've just bought a 350D will use it and both of them on photo trips, 5D is too wide, I really need a body with APS-C sensor to reach a little bit more :)

  • yalcinaydin

I own a 5D and just bought a 350D/rebel xt (was bargain:)). What can I say, every lens on 5D performs good but 350D needs better lenses to perform well, at least it was obvious with the not that good Sigma 28-300@300mm, f:11, 550EX support. If you use cropped body using APS-C specific lenses or high end lenses is a must. 5D is allways good whatever I put on it :)

Forget where I first heard this: “The best camera is the one that you have with you.”

  • http://www.petapixel.com Michael Zhang

Why a 350D exclusively for macro?

Used to shoot with a Panasonic FZ50, now I've upgraded to a Canon EOS 450D, most often sporting a EF50mm f/1.8 II.

I shoot with a 40D right now but I really want a 5D MkII because of the video (and low light). I can't afford it though :[

  • verbal_hmmm

I'm split between a Rollei 6008 Integral, Leica M6 and Leica M8.. all do the job

I am currently using my Nikon D90 to shoot but I do plan to switch from a cropped sensor to full frame sometime in the future, not for now at least.

Pentax K10D and Pentax MZ-5n. I just love old manual lenses!

  • dmk318

I shoot with a Nikon D60. I am about to shoot my 4th wedding. I am also trying to get published. Any tips?

I shoot with a 400D but will upgrade to 50D as soon as I save enough, lol.

  • tf5_bassist

I shoot with a 20D (finally lol), so I've got that nasty 1.6x crop factor. Great for tele lenses, but my only lenses are the 50mm 1.8 and the older 70-200mm f/4, so I have bubkis on the wide/close side. One of these years I'll be able to afford new lenses, and to make the jump to a 5D/whatever is out by then.
